I have never lifted a barbell. Is this the wrong place?
No. A large share of the list started here without a barbell background. The starting block is built for that: a movement assessment, eight coached sessions, and a written programme that stays inside positions you can own. We will not put a loaded bar on your back in the first hour. If you already lift, we still assess; we do not assume. The room is small on purpose so a new lifter is not lost at the back of a class.
How many people will be on the floor with me?
Four is the cap for a semi-private hour, including you. One-to-one hours are just you and the coach. We do not run open-gym traffic through the same floor. If a fifth person asked to squeeze in, we would refuse — the coach cannot watch every working set beyond four. You will see the same faces in your slot because people keep a weekly time.
Do I need to commit to a fixed weekly slot?
We ask you to. The studio holds sixty active places and a timetable with named slots. A fixed hour is how we keep the floor at four and how the coach remembers what you lifted last Tuesday. If your week genuinely rotates, say so on the form and we will look at a pair of alternating times. Drop-in use is not how the room runs. Blocks last sixteen weeks from the date of purchase; unused sessions after that lapse.
What happens if I travel for work every month?
Tell us the pattern before we lock a slot. You may move a session with twelve hours’ notice; later than that, the session is used. If you will be away for two weeks or more, we can freeze the remaining block for the length of the trip. A block still has to be finished within sixteen weeks unless a freeze is agreed. Monthly travel is common here; it is not a reason to skip a written programme, but it is a reason to plan the calendar in week one.
I have an old knee injury — can you work around it?
Often, yes, inside the limits a doctor or physiotherapist has already set. We do not diagnose and we do not treat. Bring any notes you have to the assessment. We look at ankle and hip range, how you step and squat, and we write around the restriction rather than through it. If the knee is currently inflamed or you have no clearance to train, we will wait. One-to-one hours are the usual format while we learn the pattern.
Do you coach nutrition?
No. We stay with training: the session, the programme, and the log. If you want food advice, we will point you toward a dietitian. We will not write meal plans, supplement lists or calorie targets. Sleep, walking and the timing of your last meal before a 06:00 session are fair conversation because they change the lift. That is still not nutrition coaching.
Can I just drop in once?
Not as a casual visit to use the floor. The first contact is an enquiry, then a short conversation, then an assessment if a place is open. A single paid assessment (S$90) is available if you want a look at how we coach before a block. After that, training is in a booked format — semi-private, one-to-one, starting block or mobility. There is no open-gym hour and no walk-up class.
What should I bring to the first session?
Indoor training shoes, a water bottle, and clothing you can squat and hinge in. If you have a recent note from a physiotherapist, bring that too. We provide a towel, a paper log, and coffee at the desk. You do not need a belt, wraps or your own bar. Arrive five minutes early so the stairs and the shoes are sorted before the hour starts.
The list is full — how long is the wait?
When the sixty places are taken, new enquiries go on a waiting list. We write to you when a slot frees — usually because someone moves country or drops a morning they can no longer keep. Waits have been as short as two weeks and as long as two months; we will not invent a date. You can stay on the list without buying a block. If you need to start in a particular week, say so and we will tell you honestly whether that is realistic.
